Distance Learning

Distance Learning provides the opportunity for students to complete a business degree fully online. Students pursuing a degree through Distance Learning will not be required to come to campus to attend courses; instead, they will interact with professors and complete lessons through Blackboard Ultra, a secure web-based learning management system.

The Culverhouse College of Business offers six majors fully online:

Current Distance Learning students can schedule an advising appointment by emailing businessbydistance@ua.edu. Appointments are available via Zoom or phone.

Distance Learning students have a variety of minors they can choose to pursue. The full listing of minors available to online students can be found on UA’s online website.

Students cannot switch between Main Campus and Distance Learning courses. Before considering a change to Distance Learning, students should know the following:

  • It is permanent: Switching from the main campus to distance learning is a permanent change.
  • Loss of scholarships: You are no longer eligible for main campus student scholarships. Check with the financial aid office or Veteran and Military Affairs first as it applies to you.
  • Loss of student perks: You will not have full access to student activities, athletic event privileges, or student event entry.
  • Tuition changes: You switch to a flat distance learning tuition rate. If you register for main campus classes later, the distance code and rate may be removed.
  • Kept resources: You keep full access to academic tools like online libraries and writing centers.

If a Main Campus student is interested in swapping to Distance Learning, students can submit the form or they can speak with an advisor during drop in hours in Bidgood 10.
